Giveaway and Guest Post with Dianna Hardy

Good Morning my paranormal pretties!!  Today I have Dianna Hardy with me and she is giving away a copy of Book 1 in her Witching Pen Novellas series.  Hands down everyone, these books are a great read.  There will be three novellas, and I have had the pleasure of the first two.  She will also give us some insight into the female characters of her book.  Let's take a look:

Maiden, Mother, Crone

by Dianna Hardy

Hello Dianna and thanks for coming on today to talk to us!!!
Thanks so much to Close Encounters With The Night Kind for having me on their blog today :)

My paranormal / urban fantasy romance trilogy, The Witching Pen Novellas, will be coming to a close at the end of August, with the last book The Demon Bride, being released (although there will be a spin-off, urban fantasy novel).

At its core, the trilogy is about the journey of three women. Yes, there’s romance and each couple’s story, but really, it’s more than that. Although I pride myself in not writing samey things, each book does have a similarity: it contains a heroine who is innocent on some level (the journey of the maiden), who discovers something phenomenal and proceeds to go through a transformation of sorts (the journey of the mother – transformations are always a form of birthing), and then becomes wiser from the change, for better or worse (the journey of the crone).

So, we have the path of the triple goddess (found in Wiccan / Pagan mythology and religion) paved out for the three women in this trilogy: Elena in the first book, Amy in the second book, and Mary in the third book.

Our heroes go through their own realisations also, but really the core of the stories are female-centric, despite the multiple points-of-view I like to write in.

So I was wondering as a reader, who do you like to identify with then reading books? The female? The male? Or are you someone who identifies with the plot and story, more than the characters? To answer my own question, a book always has to have a good plot for me to identify with anything. Characters – even sexy couples having damn hot sex (which I definitely like in my reading material!) – don’t do it for me on their own. It’s what they go through, and how they react to their environment and obstacles that makes me carry on reading.

The Witching Pen Novellas are available in digital format, with the first trade paperback having been released at the end of April. All info and buy links can be found on the series website The Witching Pen Novellas.

And thanks so much to Nikki for taking the time to review the second book in the series, The Sands Of Time :)
Anytime Dianna!!  I cannot wait for the last book.  I am dying to know what happens!!!!

(Book One of The Witching Pen Novellas)

It's hard being the most powerful witch on the planet. It's even harder when you're a twenty-five year old virgin who'll lose all of that power the moment you sleep with someone ... that's why Elena's never slept with her best friend and flatmate, Karl, despite the true feelings they harbour for each other.

Elena's about to discover that there are even more difficult things in life to deal with. One of them comes in the form of a pen she discovers one day, a pen that allows anything she writes to come to pass...

Suddenly, it's not just her powers or her heart that's at stake, but her very soul, as a dream demon with a seductive pull uses the pen to try and turn her away from her reality, and from Karl.

But the pen is just the beginning. Everything Elena has believed in is a lie, and her world is about to fall apart...

Seven days ago, Elizabeth May tried to commit suicide. She was found by Paul, her husband, who took her under his wing and back to their home. But the attempted suicide is not Elizabeth's main problem -- Elizabeth can't remember who she is, or a single thing about her life beyond the past week.

Plagued by nightmares about a familiar black panther, and a terrifying snow leopard, she is convinced that the dreams are trying to show her something important, and is determined to regain her memories, one way or another.

Meanwhile, Pueblo -- the demon blood-bonded to the witch, Amy -- is going insane trying to find her. Amy disappeared one week ago, and it seems not even their bond is strong enough to penetrate whatever magic hides her.

As Pueblo enlists the help of angels and demons alike, Elizabeth begins to piece together parts of her forgotten life. But what she uncovers may just have her wanting to turn away from who she really is ... for good

Two thousand and eleven years after the birth of the Failed One, the Witching Pen will be made manifest on Earth by the Great Shanka Witch of the Old Scrolls. By her hand, the Earth will rumble and shatter, and all dimensions will bleed into one.The true purpose of the Witching Pen has been revealed, and it must be destroyed before an apocalyptic prophecy comes true. There's just one problem -- the Pen is indestructible.

As everyone searches for much needed answers, Elena lays down plans for a radical mission to save her mother from the Shanka's shadow world.

Meanwhile, Mary has finally discovered who she really is, and what that means for the human race.

What Mary doesn't know, is that Gwain has been searching for her for over ten thousand years, and had lost all hope of finding her. Now that he has her, he's faced with an impossible choice: does he save the woman who altered his very existence, or does he sacrifice her to save mankind?

Hi Nikki,
A lot depends on the story I am reading. Sometimes it's the hero, heroine and other times it is the whole plot and story. There are also time where I identify with everything in the book.

Plot sounds great.

All depends on the story, though usually, I tend
to gravitate towards the female, unless it's a really good
story from the guy's point
of view.

It really depends oon the type of story. But I'll go with a little of everyone. It's like having something for everyone wrapped all nice in a pretty bookish package :)

I LOVE reading about witches and all paranormal. Your books sound amazing and I wish you the very best of success with them!

Definately depends on the story I like to identify with the plot and story but also with the characters thats what makes a book a great read for me is when its one where all the aspects come together and I can just fall into the book not re emerging until I finish it .

I'm more about the characters and their feelings. the mood of the character sets the setting for what is going on in the book.

I'm definitely a story person versus the characters. The characters can be the greatest ever, but if the storyline sucks then the characters will never reach their potential.
Whereas if the storyline is great, even weak characters can't mess it up for me.

Usually the heroine but probably a combination of everything.

I think the whole story most of the time :)

I like a lot of detail so I can be immersed completely in the setting of the story.

I get immersed in the the complete story but I do tend to try and see myself in the Female role :)
